Fortnite Festival is a multiplatform rhythm game set in the Fortnite universe. Our goal with the UX and UI was to stay true to the Fortnite visual language, but turn up the intensity and create a language unique to festivals.
Match information panel
This was the first diegetic exploration in the backstage area of the game. The goal was to give players a centralized place to view all of the match information without cluttering the HUD. We ultimately moved some of this information into the HUD, but the song information remained diegetic and thematic to the backstage.
Ready Up States
The user needed a keybound interaction to quickly change their instrument and difficulty while running around backstage. Fortnite had a familiar hotbar interaction pattern that I repurposed and expanded for Festival.
Band Overdrive States
In an effort to prioritize multiplayer interaction, we prototyped multiple methods to showcase the score multiplier and overdrive of the player’s bandmates. This was one of many prototypes that attempted to loudly showcase when a bandmate deployed their overdrive, while also avoiding information overload.
Bandmate Placement
The goal of our bandmate UI was to showcase the player’s score multiplier and overdrive meters. However, we also wanted to give at-a-glance values for the player’s bandmates. After many explorations on either side of the track, we landed on condensed bandmate frames that anchored on the right side of the track.
